New Delhi: The Chief Justices of the Telangana High Court and the Kerala High Court were promoted and appointed to the Supreme Court on Wednesday. Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments of Justice Ujjwal Bhuyan and Justice S. Venkatanarayana Bhatti on Twitter.
The recommendation to elevate Justice Bhuyan, Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, and Justice Bhatti, his counterpart in the Kerala High Court, to the apex court was made by the Collegium of the Supreme Court on July 5th.


The total approved number of judges in the Supreme Court, including the Chief Justice, is 34, but currently, it is functioning with 30 judges. With the swearing-in of Justice Bhuyan and Justice Bhatti, the number of judges in the Supreme Court will increase to 32, leaving only two vacancies remaining.
